Dermal Filler FAQ
-
Dermal filler injections are a type of nonsurgical cosmetic procedure. Dermal fillers plump up wrinkles, smooth lines and restore volume in your Lips and Cheeks. You may choose to get dermal fillers to enhance your facial features or gain a more youthful appearance. There are several types of dermal fillers on the market and OHMYBROW uses only first grade products. Please enquire within for the brands of filler available. Our registered nurses inject dermal fillers in the areas around your eyes, lips and cheeks. This elective treatment usually takes about 45 min, and recovery time is minimal. This common cosmetic procedure typically produces results right away, and can last months or years.

At OHMYBROW, our injectable nurses are educated on the right steps that are needed to achieve effortless and effective results for each person that walks through the doors. We build your trust within our consultation process as you can be assured, you’ll see great results from us.
Your appointment will begin with a consultation. A registered nurse will examine your problem areas and ask about your goals and what areas you’d like to enhance.
They may mark your face with a marker to show where the injections will be. They may also take pictures of your face as a form of documenting your treatment.
We strongly believe in talking and educating our clients on what steps we are taking within the dermal filler process to help ease your concerns. We’re 100% transparent, talk you through all the ingredients and steps, and will ensure you’re completely satisfied with your results. Your happiness is our main priority. The registered nurse will then recommend a specific type of filler or fillers to be used and explain the possible side effects and recovery time.
It's important to make your injectable nurse aware of any previous filler treatments you have had to ensure quality results are achieved. During this consultation, the registered nurse will also ask about your medical history. It’s important to tell them if you’re taking any medications, as some drugs can increase the risk of complications after getting fillers.
After your treatment, the aftercare instructions that are provided to you by your injectable nurse MUST be completed. This will help solidify the results rather than undoing all the hard work.

We recommend clients stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water to ensure results are quicker and more lasting.
It is vital to be gentle when cleansing your skin after the dermal filler procedure. No facials, lasers, waxing or any other treatment that is harsh or traumatic to the skin are allowed for 2 weeks after the procedure.
We suggest avoiding excessive hot temperatures including saunas, steam rooms or hot yoga for at least 2 weeks to ensure results aren’t affected by a higher climate.
-
In most cases, dermal filler can take up to 4 weeks for the cosmetic procedure to settle and fully absorb within the tissue.
-
Dermal filler generally lasts up to 12 months or more. We recommend allowing 6-12 months for follow-up treatments to ensure your skin doesn’t consist of too much filler.
Dermal filler can be a multiple-step process and it is quite common for clients to need up to approximately 3 treatments of dermal filler before their desired results are achieved. This is dependent on the level of enhancement a client is looking for.
You can remain confident in choosing OHMYBROW as our injectable nurses will make a decision based on your best interest and will never make a decision without your consent.

There are many types of dermal fillers. Off-the-shelf fillers contain synthetic (manmade materials).
The types of off-the-shelf fillers include:
Hyaluronic acid (HA) which is a naturally occurring acid in your skin. It gives your skin volume and keeps it hydrated. With age, your body stops making hyaluronic acid. Results from HA injections usually last six months to a year.
Calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) is a type of filler that consists of a substance you you naturally produce in your bones. Results from these fillers typically last around a year. CaHA fillers are typically used for deeper wrinkles.
Poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) is a substance that helps your body create its own collagen. Poly-L-lactic acid is used to smooth deep wrinkles on your face. The results can last two years or more.
Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) fillers consist of collagen and very small balls that stay under your skin after they are injected. The balls give your skin volume and keep it firm.
A highly experienced registered nurse will review the types of dermal fillers suitable for you at the time of consultation.

As you age, your body starts to lose collagen. Decreased amounts of collagen in your skin causes skin laxity (loose) and loss of volume. Skin becomes thinner, loses its elasticity and starts to sag. Dermal fillers can be used to temporary restore or increase volume to areas of the face such as lip and cheeks. Dermal fillers can also smooth out wrinkles and creases in your face and make your facial features more symmetrical.

Dermal filler is an individual cosmetic procedure with each client being different in terms of goals they are wanting to achieve, their skin type and previous history.
The first appointment features a consultation process that involves your injectable nurse understanding what you’d like to achieve and more. This information and conversation will allow our expert injectable nurses to make the best decision in helping you select which type of dermal filler will be best for you and your skin.
-
The current dermal filler that lasts the longest is Restylane which contains Calcium Hydroxylapatite.
However, it is important to understand that all types of dermal filler achieve and enhance different features. The lifespan of dermal filler will be discussed as part of the consultation process within appointments at OHMYBROW.
-
Good news, dermal fillers ARE instant, so you’ll walk out of OHMYBROW already seeing visible results immediately after your procedure with our injectable nurses. In most cases, dermal filler can take up to 4 weeks for the cosmetic procedure to settle and fully absorb within the tissue.

Every person breaks down filler differently and each product has a specific lifespan. At the time of your dermal filler consultation, your injectable nurse will guide you on the frequency of your treatments. The dermal filler should be approximately as frequent as 6-12 months per client.

Filler is able to help build facial definition, increase facial volume and ultimately give your skin the transformation you desire. Lip augmentation is growing in popularity with clients of all ages. Cheek fillers are also a growing trend that adds natural contouring to the face - which most women usually try to achieve through the application of makeup. Most importantly, dermal fillers when applied correctly will be undetectable and help you maintain a completely natural appearance.

Dermal Filler and Botox are similar; however, it isn’t the same as each other.
Botox is used as a muscle relaxer and can also be used to treat medical conditions and muscle weaknesses. Botox is commonly used to treat natural wrinkles around the eyes and mouth area, or between eyebrows by relaxing the muscles around the area.
Dermal fillers are known for their plumping effect on the face including smile lines or can be used to enhance lips or cheeks by adding volume to the skin.

Technically, dermal filler can migrate to other areas of the skin; however, there’s absolutely no need to worry. Why? The solution to avoid migration from occurring is choosing a reputable, experienced, and fully qualified practitioner to perform this procedure and we’ve got you covered. If for any reason filler migrates naturally over time,

Dermal fillers DO NOT last forever. If you’re satisfied with the added volume and enhancements filler provides for you and your features, we recommend keeping a regular touch-up schedule. If you decide to no longer continue with dermal filler touch-up treatments, then you can expect your results to eventually disappear over a period of time.
-
Dermal filler doesn’t cause cold sores; however, if you have a history of cold sores then it is important to verbalise this with your injectable nurse so you can both be cautious about the procedure.
-
If you have discovered lumps within the areas of dermal filler, there’s no need to panic unless these lumps start to become sore and painful when touched.
Lumps are a very common side effect following the first few days after the dermal filler procedure and are usually only a short-term problem for some individuals.
These lumps should naturally subside within the first week following treatment; however, you can help minimise the levelness of lumps by:
Applying a cold compress to the affected area
Avoid touching the lumps
If you have noticed that lumps are still present a full week after the procedure and you strongly believe that these aren’t a result of initial swelling, then we suggest you get in touch with us to arrange a follow-up with one of our highly-experienced injectable nurses.
